For one of our Professional Practice Portfolio class task, the students were asked to create and update a blog about the subject. The assignments for this subject include (but not limited to) creating a website portfolio, updating our blog about our progress, picking a 'career-path' and interviewing appropriate experts of your field-of-choosings (about how they think someone like you/them need to have a good portfolio).
One of my family's tradition to do every week is to watch a movie together. It can be in the cinema or at home, but we would always spend time together doing so. The introduction to cinematography by my dad became a part of who I want to be without me realizing in the first place. I thought I wanted to be an actor, as it turns out, I wasn't particularly interested in the actors of the movie. Instead, the story and how it was created into the thing you watch that makes me excited. This leads me wanting to learn more about the people behind the movie. And found out that I am particularly interested in writing and directing videos. So whenever people ask me what my ultimate career choice is, I would say a movie director.
Since studying in Raffles, I had taken up several roles as the director of different projects. However, since our projects don't usually have a lot of crew, each student handled more than one task to help each other out and finish the projects faster. With that, I would always see myself as a team player and really excel in team projects. I don't mind taking a more significant role and create something with a lot of people. Sure, there would be challenges along the way, but the outcome would usually be more satisfying.
However, for this particular subject, we are asked to pick a career-path that would be a little more 'realistic' to achieve right after our graduation. So, for now, I will settle more towards the creative strategists. What creative strategists do is straddle the business and creative sides of advertising, as their job is two positions rolled into one: Media Planner and Creative Director. Creative strategists usually can be found in advertising agencies or marketing firms.
