Website Portfolio Update: Mobile Version

Mobile version of the web folio is also available (works best on smartphones with the width size of 414px; ex: iPhone 6/7/8+, etc).  According to StatCounter Global Stats , the market share for people using mobile phones is larger compared to those using desktops and tablets. The data is from a worldwide region, with 51.74% mobile users, 45.61% desktop users and 2.65% tablet users. This shows that having a mobile version for a website would be the most beneficial thing to do since people would most presumably open websites via their smartphones. However, coding websites from scratch can be difficult. To create both desktop and mobile version needs a lot of resizing and checking on different devices just to see how it looks. I am deeply regretful to say that kweestin.com is not suitable for tablet devices such as the iPad, etc. This is due to the lack of time I have to balance all my school work during these several weeks. Please keep in mind that different devices may ...

Interview: Mulyadi Witono

Mr. Mulyadi (Didi) Witono is the creative director and film director for Milkyway Studio, based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Mr. Witono has a web folio  which showcases the projects he did with Milkyway Studio. Upon stumbling his web folio, he attached his email for business inquiries, and I emailed him to get an interview. Unfortunately, at first, I didn't receive a direct reply, and therefore I messaged his LinkedIn profile , which prompts him to reply to my initial email. The following is the interview exchange. 1. Can you explain what is Milkyway Studio and what do you do in the company? Milkyway Studio is a full-service Indonesian based Film Production Studio dedicated to producing exceptional content for various client needs. We are more than just a production company - we provide additional services in order to ensure that each video we produce is smart, engaging, and achieves its purpose. My role in Milkyway Studio is as a Creative Director / Film Director for all Milkyway...

Using the Johnny-Five platform to control Arduino using JavaScript

When trying to figure out how to actually set the thinker blinker up, the creators specified that they "uploaded the Firmata sketch to an Arduino, then wrote JavaScript code to drive the bulb, using Johnny-five to communicate with it." I then began to search on how to set this Johnny-five up. To understand more about what it is and how to use it, I stumble across this  article. But the point I want to share is this. Julian Gautier then implemented the Firmata protocol, a protocol used to access microcontrollers like Arduinos via software on a computer, using JavaScript in his Node.js Firmata library.  Rick Waldron took it a massive step further. Using the Firmata library as a building block, he created a whole JavaScript Robotics and IoT programming framework called Johnny-Five. The Johnny-Five framework makes controlling everything from LEDs to various types of sensors relatively simple and painfree. This is what many NodeBots now use to achieve some very impress...

Website Portfolio Update: Portfolio Details

The details for the portfolio has a standard look. It got a cover page that is the same as the thumbnail seen on the featured page. The name of the project and the year the work was created is plastered there.  Using full-screen pictures is an effective way in web designing to capture people's attention. Like on Molly and Me Pecans , we are immediately gobsmacked by a huge picture of their delicious snack, which makes us more attracted to the brand and curious to learn more about what the brand offers. Selection of this all-important asset is absolutely crucial, as it can make or break a user's emotional connection with the brand. Make sure it bears strong relevance to the actual subject matter wherever possible. You need to build an association with the individual brand in question, and an image that feels too generic or 'bought in' will detach users from the experience and undermine the site's authenticity.  Both quotes are taken from the first ...

Interview: Joza Bayu

Joza Bayu is the creative director of GREY Indonesia. GREY Group is a well known creative agency, a 103-year old global advertising, and marketing company. I first know GREY Indonesia from one of my friends. She had the opportunity to be interning as a graphic designer in the company earlier last year and worked under Mr. Bayu's supervision. I had the chance to interview Mr. Bayu via email, which I asked for beforehand by messaging him through his LinkedIn profile . When he sent me back the answers, I was not expecting to be receiving it in a presentation form. However, I should not be expecting less from a creative director from a globally known advertising agency. Below attached are the answers Mr. Bayu sent back. Mr. Bayu and Mr. Rusli (my last interview post) have some similarities. They both stated that a person's portfolio has to represent themselves. The portfolio itself has to explain who you are as a person so that the people reviewing your portf...

Interview: Evanggala Rasuli

Mr. Evanggala Rasuli is the lead creative strategist in a company called TADOtv in Indonesia. He works with an innovative team and is in charge of leading, supervising, and managing them in a project. I found Mr. Rasuli via his LinkedIn profile when I was searching for a potential creative strategist I could interview. I messaged him about the interview opportunity through his LinkedIn and asked him whether he would consider helping out answering a few questions related to his field of work. I was happy to receive his reply not long after, and I sent him the list of interview questions. The following are the questions I asked him and his direct answers. 1.    Can you explain what is TADOtv, what do you do in the company? "TADOtv is a creative content agency that provide services in terms of creative communication strategy and interactive video content. I work as the lead creative strategist, supervising, managing, and directing the creative team consisting of scre...

Website Portfolio Update: Creating and Managing your Database

When creating a portfolio website, it would be such a hassle to create and design each page for different portfolios. The smart way to tackle this problem is to create one 'template' for your portfolio details, and inputting the content into a database.  Adminer is a tool for managing content in MySQL databases.  Primarily, Adminer allows you to manage the content of your website through a table-like database, where you can easily add, remove and change the subject matter. Here you can see my Adminer database. It has two databases, one to represent the content for the portfolio details, and the other is for the gallery.   This is the porto_info database. It consists of the project id (code for each project ), year, title, video (in the form of iframe), image_thumbnail (the same image used for the featured page and the main cover for the portfolio details), head1 and head2 (headings), desc1 and desc2 (description) This is how the inside of the database looks...

Website Portfolio Update: About Page

On the home page of kweestin.com , you will see this sector under the general portfolio area. This part is a smaller section of a dedicated 'about' page.  When clicking on the "more about me?" button, you will be directed to my 'about' page, where you can get to know me more. You will also be able to click on another button, which will lead you to a pdf where you can download my curriculum vitae. I personally think that letting your potential employer know and understand you is essential. It will allow people to understand how you do your work, your skills, what you are interested in, what your beliefs in, and what your limits are.

Website Portfolio Update: My Limited Portfolio

When you open kweestin.com , you will be directed to the home page (index.php). And when you scroll down to the second section of the page, you will stumble upon the portfolio area. The reason why I do not have a portfolio section filled with all my projects is that I want to focus on showing only the works that relate to my career choice and my 'specialty.' You will also see that to see my 'full portfolio', you are redirected to my Behance page . There, I will be posting and updating projects that are more diverse and unrelated to only videos that I direct. One of the reasons I chose to do this is because I considered Ms. Karenina's interview I posted previously. She mentioned focusing on the works that you want people to know you for (ex: video editing works for someone who wants to work as a video editor, etc.) So I want to focus on what I think I do best and what I want people to know me for, hence, the only video portfolio.
